Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I consider laser treatments?
Laser treatments are a safe and effective way to improve the appearance
of the skin. They are proven to effectively treat a variety of skin conditions
with no downtime. In fact, many people often get these procedures done during
their lunch hour! The procedure is quick and gentle. Our trained medical staff
will ensure your comfort in the spa-like surroundings of our offices.
How much do the treatments cost?
The cost of the treatment depends on several factors including the type and
severity of the skin condition, and the number of treatments needed to give you
the optimal results. We will do our best to work within your budget to achieve
the desired results. Treatment plans can be prepaid, pay as you go, or
financed.
Are lasers covered by insurance?
Typically aesthetic, cosmetic (and optional) treatments are not covered by
insurance.
How many laser treatments will I need?
Most conditions require multiple treatments for the optimum results. The
average range is between 3-5 laser treatments depending on the severity of the
condition. Each treatment will take between 10-30 minutes to perform.
How often will I be treated?
Most non-ablative laser procedures are spaced 4-6 weeks apart. The severity of
your condition, and the combination of lasers being used for your program will
determine the interval between treatments.
Does the Doctor do the treatments?
All treatments are done or supervised by our Physicians. Only licensed medical
professionals who have been internally and externally trained perform
treatments.
What will happen during a laser treatment?
Before you are treated, licensed medical professionals will calibrate
the lasers, ensuring proper laser power and cooling. The medical professional
will then use the patient skin type in combination with the laser technology to
determine the proper laser setting for the treatment. Licensed medical
professionals will use any combination of four different cooling and numbing
agents to prepare the skin for laser treatment.
Will the treatments hurt?
Most patients describe slight discomfort when being treated with lasers. They
describe it as similar to being snapped with a rubber band on the surface of
the skin. For those patients more sensitive to discomfort, topical anesthetics
are used before treatment.
What happens after a laser treatment?
It is expected that there will be moderate redness in the treated area, but no
"downtime" is to be expected. You can expect to be able to return to work or
leisure immediately following the procedure. Redness and slight irritation are
normal and expected if the treatment is to be effective.
What topical skin care products will be used?
Our treatment of most skin conditions will include physician grade skin care
products, or prescriptive topical agents if needed.
What does the FDA say about laser treatments?
The FDA has approved the use of all of our lasers due to their safety and
effectiveness.
Can I treat my child with lasers?
Yes. The treatments for children are just as safe and effective as they are for
adults. Anesthesia may sometimes be required to calm a child before treatment
depending on the age of the child.
Are laser treatments safe for all skin types?
Yes. All of our lasers are approved for treatment on all Fitzpatrick skin types.
