Thermage Treatments in Cleveland, OH

What is thermage?

Thermage is a safe, noninvasive physician-performed office procedure that tightens and contours the skin. Thermage improves skin laxity, sagging eyebrows, eyelid hooding, loose tummy skin, and loose upper arm skin. It tightens, contours, and lifts skin for long-lasting results.

Thermage is the only non-invasive procedure that tightens and renews your skin’s collagen in all three layers

1. The Epidermis – the visible outer layer

2. The Dermis – the collagen-rich layer beneath the surface

3. The Subcutaneous Layer – the inner layer beneath the dermis, also known as the fat layer, which has a web of collagen fibers running through it

Using innovative radio frequency technology, thermage heats your skin’s inner layering and the web of collagen within it, causing an immediate tightening and improvement of tone and texture. These improvements will continue for up to six months following treatment due to the shortening of the collage fibrils and neocollagen formulation created by the body’s healing response.

Pre-procedure medications are used for optimal comfort, and a driver is necessary after the completion of the procedure. Patients scheduled for thermage should plan to wear body contouring garments for 4-6 weeks following treatment.

Thermage FAQs

What is the Thermage™ procedure?

Thermage is a cosmetic procedure that is clinically proven to tighten, contour, and rejuvenate facial skin to restore a more youthful appearance. The safe, non-invasive, no downtime, single treatment is administered using the ThermaCool™ system. It is FDA cleared for the treatment of wrinkles, using a captive radiofrequency technology to tighten existing collagen and stimulate new natural collagen production. Immediate results are visible and continue to improve for up to six months after the procedure. Unlike lasers, this procedure can be performed on patients of all skin colors.

How does the Thermage procedure work?

The procedure works by heating up deep collagen fibers in the skin and underlying tissue while keeping the skin’s surface protected with a cooling spray. It’s performed with a ThermaCool™ device which touches the skin to deliver the noninvasive captive radiofrequency energy deep beneath the skin. This heating action causes the structures in the skin and underlying tissue to tighten, and over time, develop new collagen to further tighten your skin and renew facial features.

How long does the Thermage procedure take?

This completely noninvasive treatment is performed in-office, and depending on the size of the area being treated, can take as little as 20 minutes or up to two hours.

How many treatments will I need?

Unlike many other procedures that require four or more sessions, a single Thermage treatment produces the desired results for the majority of patients.

When will I see results?

Immediate results will be visible and will improve over time. Measurable tightening and contouring improvements appear gradually over a 2-6 month period following treatment.

Where on the face can Thermage procedures be performed?

Periorbital Region: forehead and area around the eyes
Mid/Lower Face: cheeks, area around the mouth, jawline, jowls, and area under the chin
Lower Face/Submental: area around the mouth, chin, jawline, jowls, and area under the chin
Full Face: periorbital region and mid/lower face areas

What does the Thermage procedure feel like?

With each touch of the ThermaTip device, the patient experiences a brief, deep heating sensation as the captive radiofrequency energy is delivered to the skin and underlying tissue. This sensation indicates that the collagen is reaching effective temperatures for tightness. To protect the skin and make the treatment more comfortable, the surface of the skin is cooled before, during, and after each captive radiofrequency energy application.

Patient feedback on the level of heat sensation experienced during the procedure will help to guide the physician to balance procedural comfort with maximum results. Light pain medication may be given prior to treatment to minimize sensation.

Is there any special preparation or follow-up regimen?

No. Unlike surgery, there is no pre-procedure preparation required. The patient can return to regular activities immediately following treatment, as there is no special required care after treatment. Some patients may experience temporary redness or minor swelling after treatment, which typically resolves within 24 hours. Good skin care and the use of sunscreen is recommended as part of your regular skin care regimen. The only signs of treatment are naturally smoother, younger, and healthier skin.

How long will the effects of the Thermage procedure last?

The Thermage procedure immediately tightens existing collagen and stimulates new natural collagen production for up to six months following treatment. Unpublished reports by experienced cosmetic doctors indicate that results may last for years and are based on the patient’s natural aging process.

Is the Thermage procedure safe?

The Thermage procedure holds an excellent safety record. With more than 190,000 estimated worldwide patient treatments to date, the reported incidence of side effects is less than 0.4%. The most common side effects reported were classified as swelling, redness, bumps, and blisters on or around the treated area. These side effects have disappeared in a few days or weeks following treatment. A rare (<.11%) but long lasting side effect described as a surface irregularity has also been reported. Consult with us regarding any questions about the safety record of the Thermage procedure.

Is Thermage the only radiofrequency technology on the market today?

While there are other skin care technologies that use radiofrequency energy, only the Thermage proprietary captive radiofrequency technology delivers deep uniform volumetric heating that is powerful enough to naturally tighten and contour skin and underlying tissue. Thermage achieves results in a single treatment, in comparison to other technologies that require five or more treatment sessions.

How much does a Thermage procedure cost?

In the U.S., the procedure cost may range from $1,000-$5,000, based on the facial areas being treated. Fees can be discussed at the time of consultation.
